Logan + Justin
This shoot was such a blast! Logan and Justin live about 45 mins outside of Detroit, MI and they had SO many ideas for their session! They had a vision, and loads of outfits picked out in advance, and we worked together to bring their vision to life.
They really wanted a variety of images, some nicer posed images worthy of framing as gifts to grandparents, but also fun candid moments that naturally happen when no one is documenting them. We spent about 4 hours together to get the variety they were hoping for.
We started the day out by taking more formal images in a park. Traditionally, when I start a session without kids, I’ll start with the formal images to help get the clients comfortable with me. Everyone can sit in a posed position and give a smile for the camera, but the natural candid moments only happen once you’ve relaxed and are enjoying yourself, so that’s why I tend to plan these for the end of the session.
After the park, we did a quick outfit change and made our way downtown to a parking garage rooftop where the two had the best dance party. From there, we did another outfit change and stopped for lunch and found the most romantic alley with string lights on the way.
We wrapped up their session with cocktails at home, where the two had a dance party in their kitchen with their fur babies. Justin’s grandfather had recently passed away, and the two were missing him and sad he would not be present for their wedding, so during this part of the session they chose to honor him by using a set of cocktail glasses that once belonged to him.
You can see the natural progression of how comfortable the two got in front of the camera as the session trailed on. I know it’s not for everyone, but I highly recommend booking a longer session if you’re hoping for true, natural, candid images of you and your loved ones. I promise you won’t regret it! And remember, the most important aspect of any shoot, no matter the occasion, is to simply HAVE FUN!
